For The Culture: Targeting Race-Based Stress and Trauma with Mind and Body Practices

For the Culture: Targeting Racial Trauma with Mind and Body Practices, will focus on various methods that can be utilized in healing spaces to decrease the symptoms and impact of racial trauma.

The concept of utilizing mind and body practices in therapeutic settings continues to rise, as the concept of the body keeping score becomes more prevalent. These practices can be referred to as Psychosensory Therapy. Psychosensory therapies and mind and body practices are forms of treatment that use sensory stimuli such as movement, touch, sight, sound, smell, and breathwork to promote shifts in psychological and emotional health.

These practices include yoga, music therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Havening Techniques®, Internal Family Systems, Brainspotting, and more. As the field of mental health and mental wellness continue to evolve, other therapy models are paired with talk therapy to increase healing from trauma.
